AVID, which stands for Advanced Via Individual Determination, is a program that assists first-generation college-bound students. Its mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness in a global society. The AVID elective class teaches students college skills in the areas of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. Many of the participating students have gone to a 4-year university, after graduating high school.
Since the program began at Rim of the World High School, ALL graduating AVID seniors have been accepted to a variety of community colleges and universities. This past year was the first time 100% of AVID graduating seniors received acceptance to 4-year universities and many received multiple offers!
