  • Todd Beal, Associate Superintendent, Rim of the World Unified School District

Each year, the Rim of the World Unified School District (ROWUSD), collaborates with outside entities to provide Thanksgiving Meal Bags to ROWUSD families that need nutritional support during the holidays as many of our students rely on the nutrition they receive at school. This special event is led by Deborah Messina, ROWUSD child welfare and attendance specialist.

This year, Mountain Homeless Coalition received a grant to shop at Stater Bros to assist district families with this need.  Through the collaborative effort, five full meal bags were provided for each site.  Each of the Thanksgiving Meal Bag offers families with mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn, biscuits, syrup, peanut butter, jelly, macaroni and cheese and a large box of cereal. The National Honor Society Students volunteered their time to come to the District Office and prepare the bags.

Marlynn Humphries, Principal, Charles Hoffman Elementary School

Today Charles Hoffman Elementary students participated in Southland Sings, “Poetry to Song.”  This program is directed by Ann Noriel, a singing and music composition teaching artist.  CHE partnered with the California Arts Council to provide the opportunity for students to write their own scripts, lyrics, composition, staging and costuming for an original musical production.  Each fourth and fifth-grade classroom created their own show over the first trimester.  Ms. Miller’s fifth-grade class performed The Leprechaun and the Time Machine, Mrs. Alfaro’s four/five combo class performed Candyland, and Ms. Overmyer’s fourth-grade class performed The Dangerous Hospital in Another Dimension.  Third grade can’t wait for next year!
