    Welcome to Lake Arrowhead Elementary!

It remains an honor to serve as your PRINCIPAL!  I am entering my 30th year as an Educator! Wow…time does fly when you love what you do! And I truly love being a teacher and principal. This academic year–2022-23–begins my 6th year as Principal here at LAE, my 26th year in Rim District, and 28th year as a “Mountain Resident!”

My heart has always been to support learning at all levels in the Public School setting, and to invest in the future of our children and local community. My husband and I raised two sons who went through Rim schools K-12 grade. They both successfully graduated from college and are fine young men contributing to society! I am blessed with two beautiful granddaughters and a grandson to be born this December--who knew grandbabies could steal your heart so easily! I have many passions--most of which involve spending time outdoors getting dirty either running, hiking, camping, kayaking, and spending time with my family.  Another passion is education--continuous learning.

Staff at LAE is committed to placing students at the core of every decision we make: high-levels of learning to support students where they currently are and to accelerate their own learning, maintain a safe and welcoming environment, and continue to build and strengthen relationships with students, families, and each other.

LAE is a PBIS and Leader in Me school--focusing on building leaders within our students and staff, while teaching students to own their learning through academic goal setting, growth mind-set practices, and developing highly effective practices. We focus on the 7 (+1) Habits for Happy (Effective) Kids based on the work of Dr. Stephen Covey.

Habit #1 Be Proactive: You are in Charge of Yourself

Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind: Have a Plan

Habit #3 Put First Things First: Work First, then Play

Habit #4 Think Win-Win: Everyone Can Win

Habit #5 Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood: Listen First, then Speak

Habit #6 Synergize: Working Together is Better

Habit #7 Sharpen the Saw: Take Care of your Mind, Body, Heart, and Soul

Habit #8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs

We value communication and collaboration here at LAE. It truly does take a village to educate children. I encourage families to remain connected with what is happening within your children’s classrooms and on campus. The school and classroom teachers communicate to families using various platforms. It is important for parents to keep current phone numbers and emails in their student AERIES accounts. Feel free to contact LAE’s Office for additional support with this if needed. As I stress to LAE’s staff, proactive communication–especially verbal–is at the core of a healthy partnership.

There are many opportunities to volunteer within the classroom and with PTA. Additionally, classroom teachers are always looking for parents willing to take prepwork home to assist. Please ask what you can do to help!

Again, thank you for entrusting your children to Lake Arrowhead Elementary….and welcome to the LAE FAMILY!

    Kind Regards,

    Mrs. Veronica McGilvery
