Michelle Murphy, Superintendent, Rim of the World Unified School District
The Transportation Department at ROWUSD celebrated Bus Driver Appreciation Day on April 23, 2019. Did you know that we have 21 drivers, 17 bus routes, and 1,373 student riders every day? Our drivers must possess a minimum of a Class B driver’s license with a passenger and air brakes endorsement. They have physicals, random drug testing, CPR and First Aid certification, bus driver certification from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), an annual 10 hours of classroom training, and extensive background check. Bus driver certification in California is the most difficult to achieve because it is only administered by the CHP, all other licenses are issued by the DMV.
Some exciting news from our Transportation Department is that Dart Canyon is opening today on April 26, 2019, so regular school bus routes will resume on May 1st. All security cameras are now installed on all our buses to assist with student safety to and from school.
We are proud of this department and all they do for our students to get them to and from school.
