November 2, 2018

Derek Swem, Director, Special Services

Special Education:

The PAB (Parent Advisory Board) met October 24, 2018. Two new members were added to the Board – Rim High School Mathematics Teacher Jim Olsen to represent general education, and Karla Kellems, as a parent representative. The meeting lasted two hours and discussed the State of Special Education in ROWUSD currently. We also discussed our two committees; one encouraging the development of grants.

Also, we would like to welcome aboard Joseph Jurado, Special Day Class teacher at Lake Arrowhead Elementary. He joined us as a substitute before becoming a full-time teacher in August 2018. He also is the Head Football Coach at Rim High, where he is loved by his players. He enjoys working with all students he interacts with at LAE.

Child Welfare and Attendance

ROWUSD, Mountain Homeless Coalition, and local Girl Scouts; we have completed two snack drives for 120 students throughout the district. We are working on and will take donations to help our families during Thanksgiving Break, while our students are away from the school site for nine days.

November 13, 2018 – list of students are due to “Shop with a Cop”. Students (2-3) will be chosen from each school to go shopping with a Sheriff’s Deputy. Each student will get $200, in which $100 is available for clothing and $100 for how they want to spend it. Please keep an eye open for other future needs and giveaways.
