Weekly Spotlight 11/16 - LAE
Veronica McGilvery, Principal, Lake Arrowhead Elementary School
Elementary Teachers in every grade level at Charles Hoffman, Lake Arrowhead, and Valley of Enchantment are participating in an extensive Professional Development opportunity titled: G.L.A.D, (Guided Language Acquisition and Design). This California designated exemplary model of instructional strategies supports literacy acquisition of our English Language Learner students, as well as best practice for all students. G.L.A.D. assists with providing an equitable pathway to literacy and in closing the achievement gap. The United States Department of Education bestowed this model with the high distinction of “Program of Academic Excellence.” This professional development model provided Rim elementary teachers with two consecutive days of in-depth theory, research, and strategy focus during October, and will provide four additional consecutive days of observing the trainers utilize these strategies in an actual LAE classroom during the demonstration sessions in December.
