Suspension of Nonessential School Activities

Dear Rim of the World Unified School District families:

As you know, the health and safety of our students, staff and our surrounding community is a priority. To help limit the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus COVID-19, Rim of the World Unified School District (ROWUSD) would like to inform the community that all nonessential school activities/events will be suspended until further notice. This includes but is not limited to, ALL before and after school activities/events and any associated travel that involve our students and staff members. ***NOTE*** At this time, all scheduled athletic events governed by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) are exempt from this suspension until further notice and guidance from this organization.
While there are no cases linked to our schools at this time or in San Bernardino County, we are taking this action to protect the well-being of our students, families, staff and community. We feel it is best to exercise caution as we navigate through this time of heightened anxiety and uncertainty. ROWUSD advises that all healthy students should attend classes as usual to avoid disruption of educational progress.
Our decision to promote social distancing follows guidance provided by the California Department of Education, California Department of Public Health and local public health experts. Social distancing guidelines indicate that a space of at least 6 feet between individuals helps to stop or slow down the spread of viruses, including COVID-19. We will keep families apprised of any rescheduling of school events, assemblies, sporting events and activities based on circumstances as they develop.
The Rim of the World Unified School District has remained in constant contact with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and local health officials about the most current developments. We are following guidance provided by the California Department of Education and the California Department of Public Health, and we will continue to share that information immediately with staff, families and students via email, text, phone, websites and social media depending on the seriousness of each case.
There are simple everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. These include washing hands with soap and water, coughing into sleeve/tissue, staying home if sick, and getting a flu shot. If your child is exhibiting signs of illness such as fever, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing, please contact your healthcare provider.
