Your support and dedication continue to make Rim of the World Unified School District a place where students thrive and the community flourishes. Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 school year, we are excited to share some new opportunities and initiatives taking shape across the district. We proudly announce that we have partnered with CSUSB to offer dual enrollment courses shortly for our Environmental Science studies and Pharmacy Technician students. These programs will give our students early access to college-level learning and real-world career pathways while earning credits for their future goals. We are also thrilled to begin using Measure E funding to address critical needs across our campuses. This investment will support the improvement of our facilities, enhance learning environments, and ensure our schools remain safe, welcoming, and well-equipped for the future. In addition, we are launching two new educational programs: the RIM Adult Ed Program will provide adult learners in our community with valuable resources and pathways to career advancement.
Preschool Program at VOE, giving our youngest students a strong foundation for lifelong learning. These efforts reflect our continued commitment to student success, community engagement, and future-focused education. We are proud of our progress and excited for what’s to come.
Thank you for being an essential part of our journey. We wish you a restful and joyful summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back

Page 29: News & Fun Facts Did You Know? The phrase “dog days of summer” might make you think of lazy dogs lounging in the heat, but it has roots in astronomy. Ancient Greeks and Romans noticed that the hottest, most humid days of the year typically occurred in late July and early August. This time coincided with the rising of Sirius, known as the Dog Star, in the constellation Canis Major. They believed Sirius added heat to the sun’s rays, making the weather hotter. While that’s not scientifically accurate, the name stuck. Today, the dog days are still considered the peak of summer, and the perfect time for swimming, relaxing in the shade, and enjoying cold treats!
Page 30: News & Fun Facts Did You Know? It All Goes Back to Farms. A long time ago, most kids helped their families on farms. Summer was the busiest time for planting and picking crops, so school took a break. Kids could return to school once the hard work was done, usually by late August. City Schools Had a Different Schedule: In big cities, kids sometimes go to school in the winter and summer but stay home in the spring and fall because it is too hot or cold without air conditioning or heating! Eventually, people decided to make the schedule the same everywhere, starting in late summer! The Calendar Was Made to Match the Seasons:
Late summer and fall bring cooler weather and a fresh start. It’s also right after Labor Day, which many consider the ‘end of summer vacation.’ Perfect timing for new pencils, new teachers, and new friends! Back-to-School Became a Tradition: Over time, starting school in late August or early September became a tradition, and now it just feels right! Stores even start selling school supplies & backpacks in the middle of summer to help families get ready!
Page 31: A Fun & Healthy Family Summer Snack. How to make it: Lay the round watermelon slice on a cutting board and cut it into triangle "pizza" slices. Spread a spoonful of yogurt or whipped topping over each slice. Let kids decorate with their favorite fruit and fun toppings. Serve immediately and enjoy a juicy, refreshing treat! Great for parties, playdates, or just a sunny afternoon snack
