Page: English/Spanish: Social Media Safety: Do You Know: Parents have the right and obligation to monitor their minor children's cell phones and online activities to protect them from harm, including exposure to inappropriate content, online predators, and dangerous activities. Parents can face legal action for negligent supervision if they fail to monitor their child's online activities, especially if it leads to harmful consequences. This applies to photos and messages, as well as those recently deleted. Emojis: Decoded- The DEA published a reference guide that is intended to give parents, caregivers, educators, and other influencers a better sense of how emojis are being used in conjunction with illegal drugs. Fake prescription pills are often sold on social media and e-commerce platforms, making them available to anyone with a smartphone. Use Common Sense: Common Sense Media is a trusted resource for parents to learn about safety tips and guides regarding social media, gaming, books, TV, and movies. While some resources are offered at a nominal cost, many on the site are free and provide in-depth insights to help ensure your child's safety. Keep Your "Site" on Safety: Build a Digital Wall: Social Media sites such as YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok can open doors to predators, inappropriate ads and material, and even drug dealers. Algorithms fuel feeds on social media sites, creating a heightened risk that harmful content will appear. Blocking these sites can help safeguard children. Moderation is Key: Screen time controls allow you to manage and restrict how much time you and your children spend ondigital devices by setting limits, schedules, and content restrictions. On iPhones and iPads, use the built-in Screen Time feature in Settings to set downtime, app limits, communication restrictions, and content filters. For Android filters, use Google Family Link to manage child accounts or Digital Wellbeing for your own device. Microsoft devices use the Microsoft Family Safety app to set a schedule for Windows and Xbox. Another popular platform to manage screen time and safety is Qustodio. Scan the QR code to find out more. Page: Winter Driving Tips-Winter driving in our snow-capped mountains can be beautiful—but also challenging. The California Highway Patrol reminds families to be prepared and stay safe on the roads. Winter Driving Reminder: As snow and fog move into our mountain communities, please allow extra travel time, drive slowly, and keep headlights on. Staying alert and prepared helps keep all our students, families, and staff safe on the roads. Before You Go:
Ensure brakes, wipers, defroster, heater, and tires are in good condition. Top off antifreeze and use a winter-safe windshield washer solution.
Always carry tire chains that fit your vehicle, along with a flashlight. On the Road:
Allow extra time—winter travel is slower, and keep your gas tank full.
Drive slowly, avoid sudden stops, and leave extra space between vehicles.
Watch for icy spots, especially on bridges and in shady areas.
Keep windows clear, and use your defroster to prevent fogging.
If visibility is poor, slow down and look out for snowplows.
If you become stuck, stay with your vehicle and conserve fuel safely.
Helpful extras: ice scraper, small shovel, broom, sand/burlap for traction, towel, water, snacks, warm clothes, and blankets. Chain Requirements:
R1: Chains required; snow-tread tires allowed.
R2: Chains required except for 4WD with snow tires.
R3: Chains required on all vehicles (rare; roads usually close before R3). Staying prepared helps keep all us
mountain families safe this winter!
