Rim High School Safety Update: Reinforcing Safety Protocols and Supporting Our Students and Staff

Dear ROWUSD Students, Families, and Staff,
The district’s highest priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff by maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment. Yesterday, at the end of the day, law enforcement received 911 calls from a Rim High School classroom. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the school, and lockdown procedures were immediately implemented. Following a thorough assessment of the situation, law enforcement authorities determined that the campus was safe for students and staff.
The ensuing investigation revealed that the 911 calls were a hoax by individual(s) attempting to disrupt the school environment. The district will hold individual(s) accountable for attempts to disrupt the school environment. This is a teachable moment for our school community; please talk to your students about the incident.
The district is committed to keeping parents and families informed as promptly as possible. During emergency situations, communications are coordinated with law enforcement authorities to ensure that information is accurate, timely, and shared when authorities determine it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Today, law enforcement officials are on campus at Rim High School meeting with staff to review yesterday’s events, review safety protocols and emergency response protocols. Law enforcement will also meet with students during an assembly to discuss yesterday’s events, reinforce the important safety practices, and emphasize the seriousness of school safety. Students will be reminded that threats; inappropriate jokes, or comments involving school safety must always be taken seriously and can have significant consequences.
Additionally, representatives from Mountain Counseling and Rim Family Services will be on campus to provide emotional support, counseling resources, and assistance to students and staff who may have been affected by yesterday’s events.
We would like to thank our law enforcement partners for their immediate response and actions to ensure the safety of our students.
